The brief//
Design development of a system of posters and graphics for a series of events across the various wards on the Coromandel Peninsula, usable as posters as well as simple graphics to promote the series on social media and other platforms.

Background:
Creative Conversations, a new project by Creative Coromandel, will roll out across all five wards across the Peninsula starting in Whangamatā in early July 2024.

The series of events is an initiative for Creative Coromandel to connect with their creative communities, share their mahi and support, and listen to artists’ news, ideas, wishes, and stories.

It is a platform designed to unite diverse local groups, businesses, organisations, community boards and individuals, fostering a sense of inclusivity and community spirit.

The art organisation recognises the vital role that the arts, creativity, and culture play within the Coromandel communities, both economically and in terms of well-being.

Creative Conversations celebrates and nurtures these community activities, fosters collaborations and creates new connections.

The events are not a boring sit-down hui with pen and paper but an invitation to a great night out, good kai and new connections.

Solution:
A set of hand drawn symbols that embody creativity. Use of these symbols in the style of Emojis and paired with speech bubbles and mask-like faces as well as rough backgrounds and bold colours.

The hand made character paired with clean design elements creates a sense of being contemporary, indigenous, referencing inclusivity, creativity, joy and warmth.

They designs are highly unique, quirky and bold, and stand out in the generally more bland and sterile context of social media platforms.
